What is epoxy resin?

Epoxy resin application industries

Principles of fumed silica application in epoxy resins
In the epoxy resin composites modified with fumed silica, fumed silica is mainly distributed in the chains of the polymer material, and due to its severe coordination deficiency and huge specific surface area, as well as the characteristics of surface oxygen deficiency, it makes fumed silica exhibit extremely strong activity, which can easily cooperate with the oxygen of the epoxy resin ring molecules in the chain, thus improving the strength of the epoxy resin composites, while there is Part of the fumed silica particles are still distributed in the gaps of polymer chains, and this part of the nanoparticles has high mobility, so that the toughness and ductility of the resin-based composites are greatly improved.

Due to the high mobility and small size effect of fumed silica, the surface of epoxy resin composites added with fumed silica is denser and the friction coefficient becomes smaller, which, together with the high strength of fumed silica, makes the wear resistance of epoxy resin matrix composites added with fumed silica greatly enhanced.

By using fumed silica, which has strong reflective properties to UV light, fumed silica is added to epoxy resin, which can greatly reduce the degradation effect of UV light on epoxy resin, thus achieving the purpose of delaying the aging of epoxy resin-based composites. Epoxy resin materials modified by fumed silica have excellent mechanical properties, thermal properties and weathering resistance, thus greatly improving the comprehensive performance of epoxy resin.
