Characteristics
Fumed silica is an extremely small particle with enormous surface area, high purity, and a tendency to form chains in the chemical manufacturing process. Applications
Fumed silica is used in laminating and gelcoat applications, and provides proper rheological control, while achieving optimum shear thinning and enhancing the end-use application.

Rheology control allows customers to tailor the viscosity of a system to their own requirements.

Fumed silica serves as a universal thickening agent, a thickener in milkshakes, and a anticaking agent in powdered foods. Like silica gel, it serves as a desiccant. It is used in cosmetics for its light-diffusing properties. It is used as a light abrasive, in products like toothpaste. Other uses include filler in silicone elastomer and viscosity adjustment in paints, coatings, printing inks, adhesives, cosmetics, sealants, toiletries, food, beverages and unsaturated polyester resins.
